went to the market with smoke again. as always.

had a roll (but no tea) for breakfast.

smoke was very alert and curious today. it was absolutely no time at all before she was off my lap while i was having breakfast and looking around eagerly. there were lots of kids around because the market was doing its halloween activities -- pumpkin carving contest, costume contest for little kids, etc -- today. so smoke got fawned over for awhile by a bunch of toddler to gradeschool aged kids.

i bought:

--smoked salmon
--milk
--bread
--bacon
--apples
--pears
--honey sticks
--and later in the day i bought hot apple cider from one of the food stands

after shopping, i'd thought smoke would want to look around some since she'd been such a lookie-loo during breakfast, and for about twenty seconds she was looking around interested in everything. but then a bagpiper started up too close to us and smokie-kitty freaked. her tail went from normal to a big fluffy floof. and i know i shouldn't be laughing at her, but it was hilarious.

she did have to be carried home in the carrier.

and there was a haunted house put on by the school tonight. it was amusing. they put a lot of work into it.

tomorrow's dnd

...mostly because i spent a total of about five minutes at home since waking up saturday morning till sunday night.

i did go to the market with smoke. she got lots of attention and petting. i had one very long conversation about cats in general and older cats in specific with one lady whose cats are the same age or older as my old kitty.

i'm not going to list of everything i bought at the market. after shopping, smoke wanted to explore and i got to the next thing i'd wanted to do that day late.

woke up my boyfriend, then we went to the school's boffer club. which was supposed to be a lot of fun because i'd been looking for a venue for boffer combat since i moved. the problem came from the fact that the game i'd been playing for six years (nero) is a touch game and the club works off of hitting. i didn't mind getting hit so much as the fact that because i'm used to a touch game, the other players weren't taking my hits. and i couldn't hit harder -- six years of restraint gets you to the point that it's no longer really restraint anymore. so it wasn't as fun as i thought it would be.

after though, i dmed a short 2.0 game for the benefit of an acquaintance's brother. it's rather disgraceful to watch three level ten characters nearly lose to a singe drow who isn't even using his poison darts.

sunday: woke up late and had to run to get to a scheduled dnd game one time. didn't quite make it though and was late, but the game was fun (summoning an army of celestial badgers is a good thing).

also -- i'm not sure how i found the time for it -- i reinstalled neverwinter nights onto my computer. i'm playing a druid (yes again) going into the shifter prestige class when i can. my goal is to get a character who can take the dragon shape feat, which requires that you essentially start building your character with that feat in mind. which is why i'm starting a new character.

...and i shouldn't laugh at her. after all it's my fault she's all wet, but she just looks so ridiculous looking only half her (already tiny) size, with her fur sticking every which way, and an eloquently disgruntled look on her face.

last night she was acting like she had fleas, so today i gave her a bath -- if the later part of that sentence weren't already perfectly obvious from the above comments. and now she's mad at me.

and apparently decided to claw my couch in retaliation...

went to the market with smoke today. it rained last night so everything was all wet, but i took her because it wasn't currently raining and she actually likes sniffing things after it's rained.

my boyfriend couldn't go with me this time, but gave me some money so i could buy milk for him at the dairy booth.

in addition to the milk for him i bought a roll for breakfast, smoked salmon, pear cider, apples, bacon, and a cookie.

smoke was very well behaved during the sitting and watching the crowds portion of everything, and the crowd seems to have regained its courage because i got questions, comments and kids again this week. one lady even wanted to take her picture. nifty huh?

after that though, during the actual walk, she decided she was going to be a brat and had to be taken home in the carrier.

so... i go from not updating this for months to updating the next day. i'm that bored at the moment.

so now on to the (semi) regularly scheduled crack )
dragonofdispair: (Smokie-Kitty)
my cat is still a brat -- twit went and barfed in the front bedroom of my parents' house minutes before a potential buyer came to look at the house. in the most obvious spot possible. on purpose. i just know it.

brat.

my cat is a brat.

saturday is my usual day to write about going to the farmers' market and ramble about what happened there with my cat.

well since i'm visiting my parents, there is no farmers' market to write about, so anyone who actually reads this will have to be satisfied with hearing about my cat.

smoke's becoming used to abrupt changes in scenery. from my apartment, to my parents' house, to my grandparents' house, back to my parents', to a friend's for a day, and now a hotel room.

no the hotel room isn't because i got kicked out of my parents'.

their house is being painted and so is uninhabitable at the moment so we're all staying at a nearby motel 6. (muahahaha--my computer is the only one of the three that's picking up the motel's free wi-fi...)

so smoke's become a bit blasé about getting shuffled around. but that doesn't make the hotel any less boring. there's nothing in here that she hadn't thoroughly investigated within a few hours of getting here and now she just sleeps. which is almost normal; she sleeps a lot at home, because she thinks my apartment is boring too.

which is why i take her out to the market on saturdays. can't do that here. at my parents' house i was taking her out to the back yard a lot, but there is no back yard at the hotel.

so my cat is bored. and there's nothing i can really do about it at the moment.

on the up side of today -- dnd! yay!

here!

i'm here. finally. tomorrow, [livejournal.com profile] lordchaos359 and i are going to get together to and plot evil dungeons and dragons things. hehe.

smoke flew down with me. she was not happy on the plane, but not too traumatized on the plane yesterday.

harry, my parents' cat, seems to think she's competition for food even though she's staying locked in the guest room i'm staying in.

busy week. last week of summer quarter. yes that means final reports and finals. got my final project in metalwork done. is pretty.

busy weekend--a friend's friend needed someone there because her life fell apart. so we stayed at her house. then sat we went to the highland games. that was fun. didn't get to the farmers' market and walked the cat this morning.

smoke's still pissed at me though. it's worse though, because she also has two cats and smoke could smell them on me when i finally got home.

good kitty

there's a fly flying around my apartment because i've got the windows open due to the heat earlier this week.

today smoke was stalking and trying to catch it.

it was cute and made me happy.

saturday!

went to the market. bought stuff. walked cat.

busy posting the next fanfiction chapter.

busy weekend with no real ambition (which explains the lack of a saturday post).

for the record--

fri:
>went grocery shopping
>met up with a friend and goofed off until one-ish in the morning (somewhat unlike me, but hey, end of finals, friday night, first year having moved out of my parents house)

sat:
>went to the farmers market
>walked smoke
>walked the neighbor's dog
>went to a festival nearby with a different friend
>walked the neighbor's dog
>went out to dinner

sun:
>walked the neighbor's dog
>went to the bookstore (expect some book review entries because of this)
>walked the neighbor's dog
>finished up on the nest chapter of were-cars, which'll be posted in just a few minutes

obviously a busy weekend.

okay... this is really, really random even for me: i found out my cat likes cherry poptarts.

that's not just random for me -- that's random for her.

this cat usually disdains eating anything not fish flavored. she often expresses quite a bit of curiosity over what i'm eating though, so it's not unusual for me to break off a bit for her to sniff at. and that's what she does for anything that's not fish -- sniffs at it then looks at me like "why in hell would you eat something like that?" and walks away. leaving me to clean the bit of food off the floor.

so when smoke came up to sniff my breakfast this morning, i thought nothing of breaking off a bit and offering it to her.

then she licked it.

so my cat likes cherry poptarts. or at least, licking the filling of cherry poptarts.

i love cats. they're so weird.

last week was the last week of regular classes. next week is finals. but today is saturday and i'm relaxing. i'll have enough time to get stressed later.

at the market i bought:

smoked salmon
breakfast of a roll and tea
a macaroon cookie
a gingersnap cookie
a blackberry soda
all natural peppermint patty candy.

so junk food, almost all of it, but it was worth it.

on her walk afterwards, smoke tried stalking a fat lazy pigeon that was eating crumbs off the ground. it was amusing, cause it just kept looking at me like "are you going to drop food for me too?" when we were about five feet away, it finally noticed just what was on the end of the leash and flew away in a panic. fun.

some time after that, a tourist wanted a picture of the cat on a leash. that was fun. i'm afraid she didn't get any good poses since smoke refused to pose and i had to pay more attention to smoke and our surroundings than the camera. i think one of her pictures even has me facing behind me as i warned a dog owner that i've got a cat not a small dog. big dog too.
dragonofdispair: (Trippy Samurai Fish)
so i took smoke to the market like i normally do. sat, people watched, answered questions from anyone who asked, talked. pretty normal. one person stopped to talk for a while and somehow the subject of age came up and i mentioned that my birthday is tomorrow. she wished me happy birthday and we ended the conversation soon after.

next thing i know, she's coming back through the crowd to give me a bundle of purple and telling me they're a birthday present. cool huh?

it gets better.

a bit after that i put smoke back in her carrier to do the shopping.

bought smoked salmon, strawberry soda, a piece of buttermilk fudge cake and two beeswax birthday candles for tomorrow.

one vender, who i've seen before but not since the season started at the beginning of the quarter, was there and i wandered over to look at what she had. really good looking chocolates. i think maybe later, but i'm looking for a cake now, so i start to wander away and as she finishes up with he current customer, she asks about the lilacs. says she's seen white ones and purple ones, but not purple and white ones, where did i get them? i tell her how, and she says she'll give me a free chocolate for my birthday. i picked out a salted lavender caramel one.

so... shaping into an awesome weekend.

tomorrow, i think i'll make a point to call my sister and bug her. that's always fun.
dragonofdispair: (Smokie-Kitty)
i think i've found a new favorite way to pass the time -- laying in the sun with my cat laying next to me and a good book. it was wonderful and i'm feeling more relaxed than i have all week. the day was perfect for it too: sunny, no real wind, the perfect temperature. the only problem was i kept having to move to keep up with my sunny patch in the trees, but there's nothing that could have stopped that so whatever, i guess.

i finally finished Evolution: The Triumph of an Idea by Carl Zimmer, which i've been working my way through since the beginning of the quarter.
